Eve Game of the Year: 2009

Via Warp Drive Active we hear that Eve Online has been chosen as 2009's Game of the Year over at MMORPG.com

Every year, one game stands out among the rest, and while it would be easy to crown a winner based on subscriber numbers alone, we all know that a high subscriber count does not necessarily the best game make.
So instead, we decided to open the category up and instead look at multiple factors: design quality, fun, popularity, continued progress and more.
One game, however, stood out among the rest as the 2009 Game of the Year. The nominees were:
  • Aion
  • EVE Online
  • Lord of the Rings Online
  • World of Warcraft
  • Wizard 101
The Winner: EVE Online

Coming up with a Game of the Year winner this time around was a difficult task. In the end, it came down to factors like: game growth, originality, overall contributions to the industry, fun factor, population and technological advancement and more. After much deliberation, the editorial staff at MMORPG.com has decided to hand this honor to veteran Sci-Fi MMORPG, EVE Online.

E-ON Award Voting Closed

The voting for the E-ON 2008 awards has been closed and we're promised results soon (tm).

After I first heard I was nominated for writer of the year, I spent the next week or so after that looking over every post I wrote and asking myself "is this worthy of Writer of the Year awards?" but then I realized I was being stupid. Whatever will be will be and I don't plan to change my writing style or blog content based on whether or not I want to win an award.

It was nice to be recognized though. When I hear the results I'll post them here of course.

Honoured

Last night I was online and noticed Mynxee and Silicon Buddha playfully bantering about getting the most votes on Twitter. Curious as to what they were talking about I found a link in the history and followed it to find out that the 2009 E-ON Magazine Awards nominees were up and voting was open until March 4th. Here is a screenshot for non-Eve subscribers:

Both Mynxee and Silicon Buddha have been nominated in the "Most Promising Newcomer" category and my congrats go out to them.

The other categories have lots of notable nominees and I'm not going to list them here in case I leave someone out and make them sad, but I will direct your attention to the last category on the page called "Writer of the Year". The nominees are:
- Alia Xi
- Flashfresh
- Galadriela
- Ombeve (which is his website name, the writer is Ombey)
- Winterblink
- AND ME!!!!

"Proof or STFU!":

Holy crap, I was floored. I AM floored. I am still.... on the floor. I know it sounds like a cliche but its true that I am so honoured to have been nominated and put into that category with such excellent writers. I suspect that my Eve Tribune articles combined with my running commentary on this blog have helped to get me nominated, so a huge shout out to the Tribune which got nominated itself in the Eve Fansite category.

So Eve pilots, go and vote. And thanks to the secret members of the "Dark Wheel" who nominated me.
