This and That

Several small items not worth a whole blog post on their own.

When prices of minerals and carrier hulls were goign crazy at the beginning of the summer, I stopped production until such time that the profit margins in the spreadsheets reappeared. Over the past month I saw that the values for Archons had recovered in my markets of choice and I started to get production up again, albeit at a slower pace while I determine if the correction is over. I'm happy to say profits have been considerable on the last two builds and another is in the over.

I love speed when I'm in space, and I'm wondering if the Garmur is a good fit for me when I'm out in kitchen sink fleets. Right now I'll take my Dramiel which is pretty fast but very fragile, and I've used Navy Comets quite happily, but never tried a Garmur. Any opinions?

Should faction warfare have a resource to be fought over by the militias? Right now the only resource is system control which influences loyalty points earned. But winning the warzone actually can decrease the value of your side's loyalty points as markets get saturated and gives the other side some impetuous to get back in the war. And sometimes you don't want to take system control as its better to farm the enemy systems for sweet offensive LPs.

I think it might be nice if there was a unique resource that did not get de-valued through winning the war, and that you needed control of a system to exploit. I know there are some buffs to station services and clone costs, but that has never been a reason to want to take a system.

What is going on with the Drifters? Why are they attacking Amarr space? Where are they coming from? I know there are a lot of theories and clues but its time for a big lore reveal payoff.

  1. I think the downside of the Garmur might be that opposings groups might decline to fight them, kinda like when a fleet has too many logi or ewar ships. The Garmur/Orthrus rep might be waning, but it'd be just one more thing.

    On the Drifter/Amarr lore, I suppose that people who operate only using in-character knowledge might be looking for a reveal there, but general lore nerds already know and are just enjoying the ride at this point. Maybe you need to listen to more Hydrostatic Podcast? :)

    1. I listen to every hydrostatic and lore panel and I assure you, there is more theories and guesses than actual facts.

  2. I like Garmurs a lot, but I don't get any fights in them. Everyone just runs away.

    1. There's no incentive to fight them. I've tried *deep breath* Dual Prop Atrons, Comet, Tristan, MWD brawling Incursus. I think I tried a Merlin once. The Scram range bonus just makes it awful to fight against.

      If I see a Garmur on d-scan, it's exceedingly unlikely to be fun, or a fight I can win.

      If they nerfed the bonus to 5%, then at least I might be able to slingshot them, or get lucky with my approach. At the moment, I end up sitting on the button repping, asking for help from corp chat.

      That's not a recipe for fun for anyone.

    2. Can't edit that, whoops. The only things I see killing Garmurs are Dramiels. Nothing else seems to be able to kill them.

    FacWar Goals…

    IMHO, and please unnerstan I am NOT a facwarbear but, Faction War should be PVP for ISK plain and simple. Kill an enemy get paid in ISK on a scale based on the FacWar KB stats of the toon you killed. The more kills/PLEXes a FacWar toon has under his belt, the higher the ‘bounty’ paid for his kill.

    This is the one area in the game where I feel we should be PAID in ISK by the game for killing each other in order to gain system control but alter/decrease the LP payouts so they come into effect only AFTER system control has been established as a goal and reason to make the effort to actually take and hold systems.

    Drifters tearing Amarr a new A-hole…

    INHO… They have a bug up their collective asses over the Amarr, as it was Jamyl Sarum who ordered the “harvesting” of the brain implants from Sleeping Sleepers, thereby killing them in their sleep dead dead dead.

    To the best of our knowledge the Sleepers are in a suspended physical state yet mentally ‘conscious state’ in a computerized Matrix-like virtual ‘verse… (which is really mind bending as we are players in a virtual ‘verse who are interacting with NPCs from a virtual ‘verse WITHIN our virtual ‘verse…) so cutting open they heads and removing an implant (which itself replaces the Hippocampus, Thalmus and Brainstem) is probably not good for Sleepers long term health and welfare.

    Understand this is my take, based on what I know from ingame lore and the EVE Novels, in this case Templar One, on what I feel may be the reasons behind the Drifters and their incursions into New Eden and the motivation for their attacks on the Amarr and their obvious targeting of Jamyl Sarum in particular.
