* * * * *

The knot of tension in my back began to relax as my ship slipped its moorings and was tractored to the undock port. Maybe, just maybe, I thought to myself, we're going to have it easy from here on out.

And then my sensors gave me my first look outside and the tension returned twofold.

There was the shimmery effect of radiation from a warp disruption sphere in every direction I looked, centered on an anchored object 3000 meters off my port bow. In every cardinal direction were ships of the Guristas and my external skin could feel their electromagnetic probings to try and lock on my signature, failing while I was still in the shadow of the station. A shadow that was ending in 2000 meters, 1800, 1500...

"I hope you're strapped in tight," I announced on the internal comms, "because we're going for a ride."

There were three battlecruisers, old Ferox missile launcher variants. I cleared them from the overview as I knew their weapons were not a concern. I also cleared two Moas and a heavy missile Caracal variation since their weapons would also miss me for the most part. A second Caracal equipped with rapid light missile launchers was a concern so I decided to head in a direction he was not and outrun his range.

I counted five old class Cormorant destroyers, only 6 turrets on each, the old model with overheated charges that fired slowly but tracked really well. Fortunately, these models were probably slow and short ranged in comparison to my speed. A sixth Cormorant hull was the Flycatcher advanced variant, sporting rocket launchers. A problem but luckily for me, on the port side same as the Caracal I wanted to avoid. Starboard it is.

For frigates there were a handful of Merlins I ignored as being too slow and short ranged. Four Condors would be faster, but I was confident I could outrun them. However, there was also two Crows and a Raptor interceptors and they were going to be a serious problem.

I picked a point farthest away from the Carcal and Flycatcher and as far from the interceptors and directed the ship to move in that direction full speed, overheating and activating the micro warp drive in the same thought.

The ship lurched and accelerated and the Guristas gave chase.

    In which we are reminded why Insta-undock bookmarks are a good idea ... :)

      Oh, yeah, forgot about the warp bubble. This will be interesting.
