New Meme: Your First Ever Lossmail!

Can you track down your first PvP loss on some killboard somewhere?

And as a bonus, here is the blog post I wrote about it:
This morning I headed out in my Merlin frigate Death Threat III and started heading back to the old headquarters where I was going to switch to a shuttle. Along the way I went one jump out of my way to pick up a shield recharger I purchased and then went back on the trail. Unfortunately, the insta bookmark to the next gate was setup to come from the first gate and not the second one I was at from my sidetrip. Sure enough, I warped in 18 klicks out from the gate and a gate camper was there locking on to me. Having never been in PvP I felt foolhardy and decided to try and make a run for the gate. I'm fast, right? And small? He shouldn't be able to hit me, right?

Wrong. Only 3000 meters from the gate I was dead and soon after mercifully podded to save my clone the embarassment of warping back to base without a ship. Sigh.

So come people, whip 'em out!

P.S. man, remember insta-bookmarks you needed for getting around anywhere in good time? Can I get a hell yes for warp to zero?

That is my first loss. It hurts to even look at the fit I was sporting on that thing. The really horrible part, besides also getting podded, was that I went right back out again in another Cormmie to get revenge.

The funny thing is, I actually did some damage to one of the ships on the second loss which resulted in my very first killmail.

I guess the rats got him or something. Oh well, that was all a long time ago.

  2. I had been playing for about 5 months. See the dual-tanked Catalyst, my L2 Missioning beast. Got caught in a gate camp going into losec for the first time.

A little over a month after I started playing (hell yeah I lasted that long)

I thought I was badass in my barely fit Maelstrom.. I went straight for battleship because I thought they were cream of the crop.. Because I went straight to BS it pretty much meant I couldnt fit a damn thing on it...

  5. I guess this must be my first. I don't know where I got that faction mod in my cargo hold to haul into low sec in a fail fit Caracal. :-p

  6. I lasted two days. I had bought a gas cloud harvester at Dal remotely, and autopiloted my Stabber there. The gatecamp at Amamake caught me. Below is the entry I wrote about it.

  7. Valentine's Day...bummer.

I was heading for some random system in lowsec to do a salvage mission. I knew there were dangers in lowsec, but it didn't matter, my Caracal was awesome and FAST. And how about that awesome shield booster and the AMPLIFIER, That's still how I fit my Caracal's.

This happened after a year long hiatus from an Eve Online trial. I had just gotten T2 small blasters and had added them to my mission running Incursus at the time. I wanted to earn some quick isk. I had heard that belt rats have higher and higher bounties the lower the sec status was/is. So I hopped into the nearest low-sec system, found a domi belt rat that was worth 500K isk (the highest bounty I'd ever seen at that point), and started working.

I had just gotten killed when that Moa showed up in the belt. Totally forgot about "people can shoot you in low-sec" factor. Caught me by surprise when that Moa locked, neuted, and proceeded to punch holes in my pretty little Incursus. At least I was able to get my pod out.

I did learn a few lessons:
    1) People can shoot you in low-sec
    2) Neuts suck
    3) Cruisers are very effective against frigs
    4) Belt ratting in low-sec sucks.

What fail! And to think I'm a CEO of a large corp...

  13. I can't find my first death, but I remember it. I was so new that I thought 50km was far enough away that a ship couldn't hit me. My vigil died to an apoc in one shot. Damn atomic battle penguins!

Nothing special - being a cash-strapped rookie, I intended to save some ISK by picking up some ammunition in a lo-sec station.... I never made it there.

  17. Funny, as I was thinking of what my first loss was, I thought of my missioning vexor that got scanned down by a bit, nasty hurricane, running level 2 blockade in the low-sec system next door to my corp's headquarters.

    http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11172774

But looking at my battleclinic board, I had actually lost 5 other ships before that. The first four of them due to a random war dec by a single jaguar pilot on our corp of new players.

    http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11126516

Along with 4 or 5 other corp members who were online at the time, I put together a few throwaway ships to go out and put up a good fight. We were all pretty surprised when his lone jaguar took out all our ships he got a point on, including a few cruiser.

    But we're good friends now.

  18. I want to join in this meme but the logs show nothing.

I remember my first loss to a player, it was in 2003 and it made me ragequit for three days, but there no longer seems to be any record of it on my character sheet.
