Bartle Quiz Results

I succumbed to the peer pressure and did the Bartle Test. Here is my result:

I hated the test. Its so rooted in the traditional experience-level-fantasy paradigm that it was hard to answer a lot of the questions when the only MMO you play is Eve. "What would you rather have, 2 free levels or an epically epic purple weapon of doom?" I would like to have my time back please and thank you.

Regardless, there is the result for what it is worth. Mostly an explorer, and a mix of everything else.

  1. Yeah, Bartle's test needs to be updated, not just for EVE, but because there's a lot more refinement that can be done. Even so, the four elements CAN easily pertain to EVE.

  2. Wasn't much impressed with Bartle's test myself... The basic elements are applicable, but the questions are very leading. They assume you're playing something like WoW or EQ.

  3. You might want to check out the Daedalus Project. This guy did actual statistical analysis of why players play games rather than just anecdotal evidence (which is what Bartle's types are based on). It's an interesting read.

  4. I think you guys all have to keep in mind that EVE is an extremely niche game. There's really nothing else like it on the market right now.

Adding EVE-applicable questions to the test would confuse the vast majority of MMO gamers and provide no real benefit.

That said, I've never found the categories the test provides to be all that useful or accurate in the first place.

  5. It's not that difficult to translate the questions into EVE.

"What would you rather have, 2 free levels or an epically epic purple weapon of doom?"

What would you rather have, 2 free level 5 skills or a fully fitted Titan?

Try out the Daedalus Motivations Assessment. http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001307.php

The questions are abstracted in such a way that you can easily apply them to any MMO.
