Kill Team Ezakon

I have spent the last few weeks working on the Chaos Marines kill team, and I have completed the basic team.

First I started with dark grey primer and then black on all the major surfaces.

Then I go over all the spots I want to use contrast paints on with light grey. I find they work best on a light surface undercoat. Once applied, I put on the contrast grey, red, and brown.

Then the silver trim. Silver for days!

After this point, I took each model to completion one at a time.

And here are some picture with a better camera.

Return ofthe Black Storm

About 16 years ago when I last played Warhammer 40K, I had two main arimes: Craftworld Eldar and Chaos Space Marines. In Kill Team I have scratched the Eldar itch and this Christmas I got a box of the Chaos Space Marine Legionaries:

After I put the models together I was faced with the question of how was I going to paint them. Unlike the Eldar that I stripped and repainted with a new paint schema using new techniques all those years ago, my Chaos Space marines never really got past the drybrushing phase. And with all the new constrast paints and techniques available on Youtube now, I have a lot of options open to me.

First off, I knew I was not going to be anything but Chaos Undivided. None of the chaos gods appeal strongly with their fanaticism so it was going to be something else.

I leaned at first towards Alpha Legion. I like their background and their symbology of Hydras. But I would have needed to buy like 5 different new paints to get their scheme correct and that was a no go for me. Night lords are fanatics in a different way and I don't like the look. Word Bearers were a possibility, but I just did the Eldar in red and black and I did not want to go that way again. Iron Warriors I never really liked (and always get them confused with Iron Hands, like dudes, pick different metals). That left Black Legion or once again roll my own.

I decided to try and paint a test model in the old Black Storm schema because why do Black Legion black and gold instead of my own black silver?

While at first glance its like I'm just back where I was 16 years ago, there are a lot of differences. The bone work is much nices, the contrast paints for some details like the brown and metal sword are nice touches, the red is more subtle and less overwhelming.

I decided I needed a second model test.

Yep, I'm sold. The Black Storm, the Scourges of the Draconis Sector, are coming back. All hail Quintara, the god of Chaos Undivided!

Battlezone Octarius is Ready For Action

I have completed all except one tiny piece of the Octarius Terrain.

I really love how modular the set is and how well it can go together into one massive fort, or broken halves, or quarters and how their is pieces to make elevated walkways between them.

I do have some regrets. When I started on the small rubble piles I was testing contrast paints and trying things out so when I began work on the larger pieces I wanted the same style to keep it unified but this turned out to be a lot more work then just drybrushing everything and picking out details. I also have a bit of regret I did not do the inside of the fortress pieces but you rarely see them and I can always do that some rainy day.

Looks awesome, I can't wait to get it in action!

The Corsair Voidscarred are Ready for Action!

I've been working hard on completing my Voidscarred kill team and finally got the bases done last night.

The Felarch with ... neuro pistol? DAMN I forgot to finish the barrel!

Fatedealer sniper here to ruin your day.

Soulweaver is going to make sure your souls get safely into an infinity circuit and not into Slannesh's maw.

Kurnathi Hunter with pet FAOLCHÚ to spot sneaky hiding T'au pathfinders.

I forgot to get a close up of the Shade Runner but you can seem him here in the full team group shot:

Now I have to finish the ork terrain from the Octarius box set!

Eldar Corsair Wayseeker

I finally finished my Corsair Voidscarred Wayseeker between leaving one job and starting another with a camping trip thrown in between.

Overall I'm pleased with how he turned out, despite some mistakes on the face plate. The gems particularly are coming along well. I do wish I had done more colours on the helmet, maybe making the whole faceplate wraithbone instead of just the mask, like the one from Citadel:

Oh well, I'm still pretty happy. Next up, I need some firepower!

Eldar Corsair Kurnathi

Finished my third Eldar Corsair, this one the Kurnathi blademaster. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, still getting my feet under me.

I had a lot of trouble deciding on the lizard skin cape. Should I make it green? Should I make it hues of black and green? Or alien like blue? In the end I played it safe with the black templar contrast paint and dry brushing lightly with fang grey.

The swords on the other hand, I did not play it safe and it took two or three tries to get something close to what I wanted. Part of the problem is that I'm really out of practice blending paints and the other part was I used a blue to start that washed the sword out instead of making it vibrant. I'm moderately ok with the end result, but hope the next sword comes out better.

Next up, the wayseeker!
