Shhh! Don't Tell Anyone!

I trained up a level of Industry last night. Sigh.

Yes, that damn Bustard is haunting and taunting me. I have to have it. So once my Trade skills are complete enough I will train up the next level of Industry. I am a sad sad man.

Anyway, last night I got some playing time and made some ISK trading. How much? Let me see...

I spent on goods: 25,429,904
I sold the goods for: 33,171,176
So I made: 7,741,272

Not bad, not bad. But no more time to make money right now, I have to run up to KODA HQ and pick up all those minerals I bought for IPORC. Meanwhile, Derranna started training Refining V so she can move on to Refining Efficiency skill.

Sad

I'm sad because I haven't had much time for any Warhammer or Eve much since my game Monday night. Haven't even been able to unpack my models! *horror*

In Eve I was to take my expanded Badger II out but so far have been unable to do more than one in system run. I spent a lot of money recently and need to get out and make some to replace it! Very frustrating, but at least I have gotten two of Derranna's clones in position and the third, frankly, is in no rush.

I'm still being tempted by that damn Bustard transport ship though. Frig. I might train up Industry when no one is looking after I get these Trade skills up to par. Speaking of which, they are coming along nicely with Trade IV coming in this evening and buying and selling remotely working like a charm now.

Need Eve Fix!

Monday I was at warhammer, last night I was at Jiu Jitsu, and tonight we're off to the Kids Christmas concert. So my Eve playing has been limited. I have managed to get Derranna's jump clones and get her back to Pelille to get into the corp again, and snuck in some time to pick up my new Cargo Expander mods, but that's been all so far.

Grrr. Hopefully tomorrow night I can get some serious gametime in.

Blasted

Lawrence delivered a thrashing on me last night. Part of it was excellent solid play from him and his damn apothecaries, and part of it was me being an idiot.

I had a plan: hold back, draw him out by staying out of sight and waiting for him to trundle into my line of fire, and then blast him with guided weapons. Instead I stayed in the line of fire, spread out like crazy, moved away from my guiding farseers, and got taken apart piece by piece. Stupid stupid stupid.

Anyway, since the game was obviously lost I turned my mission into take out the Librarian and Venerable dreadnought instead of Take and Hold. I got the dreadnought and wounded and pinned the Librarian (go Shadow Weavers!!), but at very high cost.

Next time, Lawrence, next time!

In Eve news, Kirth is making me lots of ISK with his trade routes. Caldari Industrial IV finally finished and with level V requiring 22 days (!) I think that might be it for now. I did a comprehensive analysis of cargo expanders and determined which ones to purchase that gave me the most bang for my buck. Fifteen million later, I can now carry 12328 m3 in the Badger MKII and with the proper cargo cans I can boost it to 15993 m3 which is 2050 m3 more than I could previously.

But damn if I don't still eye up that Bustard in EVEMon every once in a while and say to myself, "Industry is only a Tier 1 skill, training it to V wouldn't be that hard.." Grrrrr. Stupid CCP.

Well regardless, that skill is done for now and I'm into improving my trade and combat skills. No real plan, just whatever fits the schedule for the moment. I decided to learn about rail guns because it was obvious I couldn't tell a 150 Dual railgun from a 200mm Carbide and finally got it in my head that ammo affects optimal range. I heard it before, but now I know the math. Sigh. One day at a time.

In other news, Korannon is able to fly his Badger and will start consolidating minerals. I have to see if he can train up to use some cargo expanders too. Derranna is getting some jump clones to facilitate production and research efforts. All in all, everything is going well.

Game Tonight

I've got a challenge game against Lawrence tonight and I feel good about it and dread it at the same time.

You see, Lawrence posted a list on Bolter and Chainsword forums and hinted on Deep Space that I could find it. Which I did after two minutes of googling. As I read it I formulated plans of what I could do to deal with it.

However, the thought crossed my mind that this is exactly what he wants me to do. After all, I've done the bait and switch in the past. But Lawrence doesn't strike me as sneaky, he's more open in my experience. So what to do?

I decided to come up with a plan that should be flexible enough to deal with his army or variations thereof. Its a nice list based on the models I have available, but unlike Lawrence I'll keep it close to my vest until after the game. Still, I feel this list has potential.

The dread comes from the fact that Lawrence fields a strong marine-heavy list, with nasty librarian(s) that will ruin my day every chance they get. And he's experienced with that army enough to know what he's doing.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on Lawrence this round.

Busy Weekend

This weekend I got a few chances to play Eve for extended periods. I did some PvPing with the corp, ratting, and trading. All in all, my favourite was PvP but the most profitable was trading.

PvP takes time, patience, and balls of steel. I've got the metal, but lack the other two. So PvP will always be an impromptu effort for me.

Ratting can make some decent money, but you need to be in lawless space always looking over your shoulder, you've got to worry about ammo and loot, and the concern that this rat might just get you if you're not careful.

Trading is making me good money. In my hauler I can pull in a couple million in a quick session. In low sec I'm not as vulnerable to gankers, and I don't have to worry about ammo and gathering loot. Sure, the rewards are only monetary and it does not get the blood pumping, but I can make money in short bursts of time. And most of all, I like it.

I do need to try some mission running again sometime, but trading is just too much fun right now.

"Mission Accomplished"

Except, unlike a certain "Worst President Ever" I actually mean it.

I was only on for thirty minutes last night, but it was enough time to run Operation Deep Blue with a couple other corp mates to the new base. Ninety four BPOs were transferred in the belly of my fast little Vigil frigate. Now the real meat of research can be done.

I hope to get on for a good couple hours tonight. We'll see.

Turret and Pilot Complete

Almost done! Just need to finish the back hatch and the weapons/sensor vanes on the bottom of the hull.

Not Enough Time

Last night I was only on for forty minutes. Basically enough time to finish Kirith's running around, and establish a new character for Korannon and get him set up in Empire space with my new corp, Kodachi Enterprises. Woohoo!

Tonight I hope to get my Ferox outfitted and fly a test run or two.

Time Flies...

I spent over an hour online last night and seemed to get very little done. Its amazing how time flies in this game.

First off while up in the hunting grounds I transfered a lot of my personal items to the new base in a Badger MKII I built for that purpose. Then the 24 wait period was over and I was able to clone jump back to Placid. I had asked a corp mate who specializes in Ship Builds for an ideal Ferox build using rails and spent a while buying the mods I needed to outfit this build. I also needed some new skills so bought a whack of skillbooks for the new mods and a couple Trade related ones to improve my buying and selling profit margins.

As I set out to collect my purchases, I decided to try and make some money trading again and bought 20,000 units of antibotics to sell at ~40 ISK profit each. But when I got to the destination station I could only sell 250 units. I forgot to make sure the buy order was for the same volume as the sell order. DOH! Lesson learned. Sigh.

Awesome Eve Weekend

I had a great weekend playing Eve, even if only for a few hours here and there.

Friday night I got into a squad of corp mates and did some PvP, helping to take down a couple ships before having to log. I was only in my Merlin, but it was nice to see some action and get more experience.

Saturday morning I flew up to Umokka to buy some minerals from John and fly them back to Pelille. Along the way I saw a great price on a Ferox and snatched it up. I then bought the skill book required, trained it up, and flew it home. I'm now flying in a Ferox for PvP squads. Woot!

Sunday morning I did some minerals runs and started buying and selling trade goods for profit. I made about 1.4 million in 25 minutes in my Badger MKII. Expect to see more of that! Sunday evening I got on an hour of ratting up in 9GYL with Barak. Tonight I plan to move all my personal belongings to 31MLU for a new home. I hope to convince the rest of the corp to do so eventually too.

I love this game.

Run Run Run!

Last night in EvE I spent a lot of time travelling and not a lot of time doing much else.

You see, I wanted to start running level 2 missions because level 1 was not making very much money for the effort. So I found out that training up Connections a few levels would help out a lot. After two levels of that skill, I had access to some lvl 2 agents, but they were in different regions then Pelille. So I decided to grab my slumbering jump clone in Itrin and transport one of the Caracals in storage there up to a new base in Verge Vendor where a lvl 2 agent could be found. Twenty one jumps later (thank god for WTZ!) I arrived at my new station.

Of course, I had a ship with no mods and nothing else to fly. Ever try running a mission in a ship with no weapons? Me neither. So I went on the market and decided to buy a Cormorant for mission running, and equipment to outfit it. Then I hoped in a shuttle to go pick all this new stuff up and put it on the new ship. By the time I made it back to base, I had a fully equipped and armed Destroyer raring to go to battle for less than 2 million. Sweet! Of course, all of this took my playing time for the night but I'm ready to go at next opprotunity.

In other news, Derranna has started Adv Lab Ops 3, her second last skill to train. It will be done tonight at 7pm, and then she starts the final 8 day training to level 4.

Craftworld Canathius Crush the Marines!

Well not quite.

From the moment I saw Nick's (aka Bourgui) army list, I pretty much crapped my pants. A Mechanized Imperial Marine force? I'm so dead, I thought to myself. Three Dreadnoughts, a Predator, three Razorbacks, six landspeeders. OUCH! And the ranged tank-busting my army had? One twin brightlance on the wave serpent, and one pulse laser on the falcon. Uh oh.

But it turned out I was not as defenseless as I thought. My three scatterlasers (two on Vypers, one on the Falcon) and two shuriken cannons pitched in against the 'speeders and razorbacks, and the Warp Spiders warped in to kill two speeders and a marine squad themselves.

We rolled up a Take and Hold mission and I deployed my fast army in one corner, drawing his pred and dreads in that flank, then under cover of pre-dawn darkness in turn one I swooped 24 inches to the centre of my deployment zone so that on turn 2 I could turn to the centre and attack from that angle. It seemed to work as the dreadnoughts and predator spent all game fighting terrain and taking long distance potshots, only once getting the armoured walkers into close combat. I concentrated fire on the razorbacks first, and landspeeders second. Force the marines to walk, I thought, and then kill those damned fast skimmers.

We traded bodyblows throughout the game. He killed the jetbikes, I murdered some land speeders. He slaughtered the Dark Reapers, I shot up some marines. It was a bloody chess match, with neither side able to get the upper hand completely.

In the end, we each had about 500 pts of units near the centre of the table: he had three dreadnoughts and a predator and a land speeder, I had my two squads of scorpions and a falcon still counting as scoring. So it came down to the death dealing in that case I had killed almost 1200 pts, he managed about 1000. Small margin of victory for the Eldar!!

Analysis

Up until the points were totalled, I was convinced I had been defeated. The best wins are those you don't expect.

I played a very cagey and cautious game. My large squad of scorpions never saw close combat until being charged in the bottom of turn 6 by a dreadnought, and I moved my Falcon and its cargo like it was made of glass. Nick threw everything at my centre in an effort to break it but the slowness of the predator and dreadnoughts hurt him as I fled the flank and his landspeeders couldn't dodge the hail of strength six weapons I weilded.

In hindsight, I think Nick should have deployed more to the centre and occupied it with everything, forcing me to come to him more, and allowing those big heavy walkers to intimidate from a position of strength instead of the flank that I refused.

Great game!

Consolidation

Last night I had a good 90 minute session in which I spent the time consolidating assests and getting organized. I had giant secure containers in Stacmon, new Caracal in Orvolle, skillbooks in Agoze, and still had that 4 million tritanium in Intaki. Not to mention a new mining laser in another station in Pelille. And Derranna was not in 31MLU overseenig research projects. It was horrible.

So Derranna flew back to 31MLU and may never leave now that she had her final skills being trained. The rest of the time was spent with Kirith and running around Placid getting stuff organized. My Badger MKII got three Giant secure cans to increased my hold space by 2700 m3, allowing me to haul 1.3 million tritanium to the factory. Still have a couple more runs, but that's ok. I got new skillbooks for Social skills to help my mission running, increasing standings and rewards, as well as Cybernetics to look into implants. And finally I picked up and fitted out a new Caracal to replace the one I lost to my own stupidity.

Finally I purchased a 5 run ME20 Ferox BPC for personal production for 2.1 million. Ferox's don't sell for much more than it costs to make them so I will build some for my new PvP and PvE ship to replace the Caracal when my skills get up to snuff.

In other news, I've got a 1700 pt game against Nick (Bourgui) tonight at the Bunker. Another chance to try out the new Eldar, woohoo!

Ups and Downs

Last night I got some good time in and had some ups and downs while playing.

Ups: Derranna is making good progress training, getting started on Advanced Lab Operation and Supply Chain Management, as well as getting Mass Production 4 and Scientific Networking 2 completed for another factory slot and the ability to operate labs from 5 jumps away. Quite simply she is almost complete. I'm training Mimitar Frigate III right now over the patch day, and then work on Advanced Lab Operation tonight. By Dec 16 she will be complete and ready for transfer. Woot!

Meanwhile Kirith is making progress on Navigation 5. I bought him an Osprey cruiser for mining ops, and did a hauling favour for Minessis in my Badger MKII that I'm really beginning to like. I bought some named cargo expanders and found I can carry over 10K m3 of cargo, enough to haul a packed cruiser and some mods. Visions of distant mining ops run through my head, especially as I consider what occurred first...

Downs: an importu PvP sessions started the evening and I jumped in my Caracal and rushed into action. Four of us tried to engage a Raven but her sheild tank was tough and Drones had locked despite our efforts to jam. A couple ships were lost and we warped out... except I warped to a gate, forgetting I was in low sec and not 0.0, hence the sentry guns targeted me. I tried to warp away but got my ship tied up in the gate structure and was easily destroyed. DAMN!

I'm such a terrible PvPer right now and its so depressing. Its a good thing my industrial projects are developing nicely.

My New Toy

I got Caldari Industrial III trained up yesterday so last night while doing some mineral hauling I broke out the Badger MKII:

I wasn't sure how to outfit the mid slots, and went with two basic cargo expanders in the low slots and one warp stab for safety.
