Busy

Monday and Tuesday night were particularily busy with Jiu Jitsu classes, so no real progress was made except trimming parts off a sprue for my new Chaos Rhino that I got in a trade from Dennis. I also picked up the new chaos lord in terminator armour just because it was so cool. Tonight I might get some work done, we'll have to see.

This and That

My Mighty Empires game arrived last week and Friday I got the chance to try it out with Andrew. It was pretty good, but requires some tweaking here and there to make it better.

I had a quiet weekend planned so expected to get lots of painting done, but the wife had other ideas and by the time 8PM Sunday rolled around I had got nothing do except the grass on the bases of the guardians. Here is the finished squad:

I sat down with the wife and watched a movie from our video collection and I was able to get the dark reapers under the brush, finishing the Blood Red coat and getting ivory on the weapons. Overall, I'm pleased with the progress.

Ouch

Last night I got in a 1500 pt City Fight game with my Chaos against Brent (Ezekiel) and his Orks.

The first three turns I was kicking ass and taking names. Battlewagon, torched. Objective Buildings, secured. Orks, dead or demoralized. Warboss, crushed.

Sadly, the tides shifted dramatically in the last three turns and the orks kicked my ass. Ouch. Brent held steady despite early setbacks and when I made some minor tactical blunders, he exploited them to full effect and rolled back my forced on all fronts. Although he was two orks from not having a scoring unit, he held on and handed me a scathing defeat.

I had two major blunders: first I moved the Defiler forward off a Sewer Rat manhole cover allowing the Skarboyz to come from reserves in my quarter and close to the target building I was defending with two marine squads. Then, I moved such that the first defending marine squad was in front of the second but both were so close that he easily consolidated into the second squad when he assaulted and killed the first. (Note to self: even in cover, Orks are scary good at removing marines and obliterators from the board. Double Ouch!)

Anyways, I learned some good lessons and Brent demonstrated the fine art of persevering through rough patches to obtain the victory.

Highlights:
- Dreadnought assaults and crushes warboss.
- Daemon Prince assaults and destroys Battlewagon
- Obliterators deep strike and flame orks.
- Skarboyz assault and destroy Defiler.
- Skarboyz assault and destroy tactical squad in cover.

Hopefully A Big Game This Week

In the need for some blood letting, I've tenaticely arranged for a big 2500 pt game of 40K against Paul (fazzadien) on Wednesday. Needless to say my Eldar can't muster that much troops yet, so my chaos will be making another appearance.

On the modeling side of things, the guardians are mostly based, just the grass left to do. The Dark Reapers began getting Blood Red last night, and one chaos marine with meltagun is getting close to finish. Pictures forthcoming tomorrow.

Sadly, No Game

Adam had to cancel on me at the last minute last night, so I trucked back home and visited with the wife. I did get the chance to buy the new Eldar Rangers despite my resolution to wait until the new codex. Oh gee darn!

Black Storm Arrives on Medusa V

Not that I expect my participation to be any greater than previous global campaigns... but I can dream!

I've got a big 5000 pt game of Epic against Adam and his fearsome Eldar tonight. There was much speculation with Chris over what I would be facing and how best to deal with it. My original list went with a Banelord and a Ravager but I decided it was too unweildy. Then the possibility of Adam going either air heavy or titan heavy came up. I could deal with either with enough notice but since I didn't know, I had to come up with a plan that could account for either possibility as best I could.

In the end, I went for something that Chaos does very well in Epic: infantry. Chaos marines are all round good troops: decent armour, nice firefight and close combat, and good sized formations. I also went for as much speed as I could muster.

See the first two rows in the picture? Those will be advancing towards the Eldar as quickly as possible, while the titans in the last row will be supporting the advance. The terminators will probably be Void Spinner hunting and the Defiler platoon defending the Blitz. Hopefully the Ravager titan will worry him enough to keep him from hitting my infantry platoons too hard until its too late.

Battle report and pictures tomorrow.

Titan Competition

Specialist Games is having a Titan Creation competition which I'm thinking of entering. Basically, they want fluff and rules of a titan describing its history and such. I think I'll enter the Archbishop of Despair Banelord titan.

Guardians Almost Finished

I got lots of painting done on the long weekend to the point where I'm starting the bases of the guardians.

Close up of the squad leader's backside. I pimped him out compared to the other guardians, giving his a backpack thingy, targeter on the shouder, and extra ammo and a grenade on the belt as well as the cool looking eldar power fist. In game terms, it all means nothing but I love him anyways.

Meanwhile, more Eldar go into the dip. One metal guardian I kept from the old days 'cause he looks cool, four support platform guys that do not match anything in my army anymore since I sold the rest of the night guardians, and four warlocks that I decided I would not need in the near future. Probably a little hasty but oh well, they had to go sometime.

And I started the four dark reapers as well. No pics, they are just red right now. :P
